Interconnections in a New World
📍 Capulet Art Gallery (Online + In-Person by Appointment), Richmond, BC
🗓 May 1 – June 30, 2021
🎟 In partnership with VAHMS & explorASIAN – Asian Heritage Month
Interconnected Project 2020–2021 was a collaborative digital exhibition launched as part of Vancouver’s Asian Heritage Month celebrations. Originally envisioned by Leticia Sanchez, President of the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS), Interconnected aimed to unite galleries and artists across Metro Vancouver through synchronized, point-to-point exhibitions exploring Pan-Asian identity and artistic diversity.
Initially designed as a city-wide in-person exhibition tour, the project shifted online due to COVID-19. Capulet Art Gallery was one of the key partners, contributing works and artists under the Interconnected banner.
The digital pivot offered new potential:
🌐 A national reach through online platforms
🗺 A downloadable digital map connecting participating galleries
🎨 Curatorial independence with centralized promotion via VAHMS
🤝 Cross-gallery artist collaboration and exposure
🎨 Interconnected became more than an exhibition — it became a virtual network that deepened community ties and amplified Pan-Asian voices across Canada.
This forward-thinking project allowed Capulet Art and fellow participants to remain engaged with the public while experimenting with hybrid formats of art presentation and cultural connection.

The exhibition featured 11 artists from across Asia, representing China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Iran, aligned with the year’s theme: “Pan-Asian Cultural Connections.”
Originally planned as a gallery show, the exhibition shifted online due to COVID-19, with a full virtual catalogue and artist features. Works explored heritage, identity, migration, and cultural legacy, brought to life through painting, mixed media, and storytelling.
Artists included Lauren Brevner, Taka Sudo, Chrissy Cheung, and others. Chrissy Cheung also gave a live Zoom talk on May 15 to discuss her large-scale painting Vermilion and her creative process.
🎨 “At first, I wasn’t sure how to do this… but the artists were happy to adapt, and so we made it happen.” — Kevan Seng, Gallery Director
This innovative, hybrid-format exhibition exemplified the resilience of cultural connection during a time of physical distancing — bridging artists and audiences through digital platforms.

Floating Above is a stunning solo exhibition by Farahnaz Samari, blending abstraction and impressionism into dreamlike compositions inspired by memory, motion, and the colors of the sea.
With over 20 paintings on view, this collection explores contrasts — stillness versus motion, softness versus bold form — while drawing deeply from the artist’s memories of Iran and her life on the West Coast of Canada. The series reflects a profound connection to the ocean, where the imagery of floating in emerald waters evokes a sense of peace, nostalgia, and inner clarity.
🖌️ “My art captures the dreams of my childhood and the quiet energy of ocean life. Each painting is a moment, a memory, a photograph in motion.” — Farahnaz Samari
Originally from Iran and now based in Vancouver, Samari is a graduate of both the University of Tehran and Emily Carr University. Her work has been exhibited in more than 80 solo and group shows across Iran and Canada.
This exhibition marked a powerful contribution to Capulet Art’s continuing series highlighting voices that balance technical mastery with deeply personal expression.

The Stolen Series was a powerful dual-venue exhibition by Winnipeg-born artist Mark Sweatman, showcasing 15 of 21 paintings that had been stolen by a fraudulent art dealer — now recovered and reclaimed by the artist. Displayed across two galleries, this exhibition marked a return not only of artwork, but of artistic agency and legacy.
More than a collection of paintings, The Stolen Series unfolded as a narrative of loss, recovery, and tribute — sharing space with Sweatman’s poetry, performances, and other original works. The show also paid homage to his late sister Sheilah Sweatman, a heroic Search & Rescue volunteer and fellow artist, whose life and spirit remain central to his creative journey.
🎨 “We are both the mirror & seer, the artist & the observer.” – Mark Sweatman
This exhibition was a highlight of Capulet Art’s commitment to presenting artists with powerful stories and unapologetically personal visions.

📍 Capulet Art Gallery
🗓 May 9-30, 2019
🎤 Opening Reception: May 9, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Shoshin: Beginner’s Mind brought together Taka Sudo and Jace Kim in a powerful two-person exhibition rooted in the Zen philosophy of shoshin — the beginner’s mind. The artists returned to their original instincts and creative freedom, breaking away from formal expectations to embrace spontaneity and raw expression.
The exhibition encouraged viewers to approach art-making with openness, curiosity, and a lack of preconceptions, echoing the words of Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki:
🧘♂️ “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.”
Known for his explosive neon abstract work, Taka Sudo’s art collided vibrancy with urban fragmentation, while Jace Kim’s emotive brushstrokes reflected deep human sensitivity. Together, their work offered a unique visual dialogue on artistic renewal, vulnerability, and creative courage.
🖌️ This show was a standout in Capulet Art’s exhibition series celebrating artists who challenge themselves to reconnect with the essence of creation.
65 Year’s of Art – Raymond Chow
📍 Capulet Art Gallery
🗓 March 8-31, 2019
🎤 Opening Reception: March 8, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
🎟 View Event on Events →
65 Years of Art celebrated the extraordinary creative journey of Raymond Chow — a prolific Canadian artist whose career spans over six decades. From hand-tinted ballpoint pen illustrations of Vancouver’s iconic architecture to experimental works involving tire treads, yogurt containers, and abstract expressionism, this retrospective chronicled a lifetime of artistic evolution.
The exhibition opened with Chow’s architectural drawings from the 1950s, works that first brought art dealers to his doorstep while he was still in his early teens. It then moved through a dynamic range of styles and media: bold acrylic paintings of women in windows and houses from the 1960s, serene figures in flowing white gowns, and ultimately, circuit-board-inspired abstraction influenced by global conflict and technology.
🎨 “My art has risen and still never sets… as the Earth spins, my art still evolves as evolution.” — Raymond Chow
This show marked a milestone moment — not just for the artist, but for Capulet Art, which continues to honour legacy artists who have shaped the cultural and visual identity of Canada.

Icons & Idols, Plus! was a vibrant group exhibition featuring 89 original works by Victor Pross, Gale More O’Ferrall, Kate Drexler, and James Green. The show spotlighted Victor Pross’s signature blend of caricature and fine art, where satire met brushstroke — lampooning politicians, celebrities, and cultural icons with sharp humor and artistic flair.
Collaborative pieces between Pross, O’Ferrall, and Drexler added a layer of interplay and experimentation to the show, while James Green contributed two series:
“Thoughts” – a comedic portrayal of quirky characters frozen in absurd yet familiar poses
“Optillusion” – abstract architectural linework in black ink, offering visual puzzles in motion
🎨 A true collision of pop culture, parody, and artistic innovation — all wrapped in a dynamic group exhibition.
With two receptions to accommodate guests’ schedules, Icons & Idols, Plus! was a fun, engaging show that paired biting visual commentary with bold artistic experimentation.
