Interconnected Project 2020-2021
In 2020, Interconnected launched as one of the projects under the Asian Heritage Month program in Vancouver. It was envisioned by VAHMS president, Leticia Sanchez, as a point-to-point exhibitions project designed to bring together galleries, artists, and the public around works that celebrate Pan-Asian heritage. Exhibitions across downtown Vancouver were slated to open in May of this year, giving the public access to compelling works of art. Interconnected also presented opportunities for partner organizations to build new connections among peers through networking events and mutual promotional efforts. However, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, as with other cultural events in the past year, Interconnected project needed to pivot its programming online.
The virtual Interconnected project provided important lessons that emerged from moving this extensive project online, especially, the opportunity to scale the project towards a national collaborative project where other provinces could participate.

Original Purpose of the Interconnected Project 2020
Interconnected will feature different Asian, Pan-Asian, and Asian -Canadian artists intersecting, connecting, and networking. The concept of connecting various galleries and art organizations comes from the idea of showcasing a larger variety of artists, art, techniques, and mediums while connecting artists and audiences with more art spaces around Metro Vancouver. The spaces can be visited at different times, or as an interconnected tour. The project will provide a digital map of the galleries involved. The map can be downloaded to better follow the various exhibits. The interconnected exhibitions project will spark some great conversations and ideas about art, diversity, and commonality while strengthening and supporting the vibrant Vancouver cultural scene.
Interconnected purpose when the Pandemic forced explorASIAN to move the project to digital.
The virtual Interconnected project offloads the responsibility of creating live art exhibitions. It allows the galleries creative freedom to produce their own exhibitions and get public exposure through the VAHMS brand. Artists and galleries are part of this program are invited to showcase selected pieces of their works, under the banner of “Interconnected”.
